Diluc pinched the bridge of his nose with a pained expression. “I’m sorry, can you please just explain again what happened?”
“Well,” The poor nervous clerk shuffled some papers behind her desk. “There was a mix up with the booking company, you see. And they sent us information for a single room, not two. And with this being a busy weekend for the expo and all,” she trailed off.
“You have no other rooms available other than the… single room with the single bed, right?” He asked.
“That’s correct, sir.”
He crossed his arms and turned to his bodyguard with an irritated frown, “Well, what do you think, Alberich?”
“I think the single will be fine.” Kaeya stepped in smoothly. “I’ve told you time and time again, Mr. Ragnvindr, I cannot protect you from another room.” He smiled at the woman, “Would you be a dear and send up a cot for me when you get the chance?”
After she nodded, Kaeya gently steered Diluc away from the desk and to the elevator, pocketing the room key.
“Your luggage should already be there, Mr. Ragnvindr,” she called after them. “Have a pleasant stay!”

Kaeya immediately took advantage of the free lap space, and wriggled closer so his head could rest on Diluc’s thigh, basically purring as Diluc continued petting him. “You get so horribly emotional when you’re drunk. I don’t know why I put up with you.”“I love you,” Kaeya said, and pressed a sloppy kiss on Diluc’s free hand, which he had caught for this exact reason.“I know.”“And you love me,” Kaeya continued, blinking up at his favorite person. Diluc’s soft smile made him a thousand times prettier than usual.“I do.”

Diluc disappeared beyond the door with a flourish of crimson waves behind him, leaving Kaeya behind, flabbergasted by the entire conversation. Just what was Diluc trying to do? What this some kind of divine punishment from the gods? He had less than twenty-four hours to figure it out.
What the fuck was he going to wear?Kaeya would be pacing if he wasn’t stalling in his car. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white. He wasn’t nervous. Why would he be? He had no reason to be. It was only Diluc, for fuck’s sake. No, never mind. That’s why he felt this way. It’s because it was Diluc. If it were anyone else, Kaeya would’ve been in there already. He wouldn’t be six—no—seven minutes late.
Shit. 7:07. He was seven minutes late. He gripped the steering wheel until his forearms shook and groaned. Why did he agree to this?! Was he crazy?! Probably. That wasn’t the point—it was entirely the point.
He gasped a breath and forced himself from the driver’s seat before he could stall any longer. It wasn’t as though being late was going to make it any better. One foot at a time—briskly.

They were poised underneath the exit of the passageway, the ancient ladder that led upwards embedded into the wall: her fingers closed around the topmost rungs, head tilted to listen for footsteps, the sound of people passing by. Waiting until it was quiet. "Are you certain that he's there?"The trickle of water was inescapable even here. The air felt damp. Kaeya lingered at the mouth of the tunnel, the narrow neck before the opening, his face tilted fractionally upward, different from hers, the edge of his nose pointed at the covered ceiling."He'll open the door," said Kaeya. Perfect certainty, without a shadow of a doubt, as if he had done it before. "No matter what happens, he'll open the door." An involuntary twist of his mouth — like a tremble, almost, a betrayal of the skin — and then that elided gaze, part of it omitted. Looking at, and then looking through: always open, except. "Always."

Although on that day Kaeya received his vision he came to realize, love might not have been something that would be blessed upon him. The young man refused to let himself fall into any deeper despair, dedicating his time and work to something concrete, something that would give him a sense of belonging; the Knights of Favonius. Kaeya felt he had done a better job keeping his feelings hidden below his charismatic and cool facade.
Despite all of this, when he had felt his connection with Diluc begin to fade, the pain would build up in his chest at the loss. He yearned for what was once his, to envelop him again in his scent.
For some reason today felt incredibly different, something primal that demanded he walk towards and whisk him away. The man behind the bar looked so unwell, his alpha instincts could tell that something was incredibly wrong. What happened Diluc? It was possible that Diluc had attempted to mate with another before his mark had completely vanished and it had had a negative effect on his health. The thought made an acidic taste rise within his mouth, reminding him once again that he had come here to drink.

“Shh,” Kaeya shushed him as they reached a small clearing amidst the gardens. Everything was still, and the only noise came from the garden’s trickling waterways. That and the beating of Diluc’s heart that resounded in his ears.Kaeya motioned him to sit down on a patch of grass.They waited in the calm quietness, huddled together under the stars. None of them said a word. It wasn’t necessary, Diluc thought. His eyes opened wide as the shy specks of luminescence started to float out into the air. The translucent bugs shone weakly under the pale moonlight, but in the darkness it was easy to see them.Crystalflies they’d call them. Flying like butterflies with wings and bodies made of the finest crystal, the smoothest of glasses. It made their every flutter reflect the light. The fragile insects danced in the air looking for a partner. Once they found them, they’d dance around each other, until they finally came together mid-air. It was truly a sight to the few who would witness their silent courting.

Children slept with comfort toys nearby. Diluc slept with weapons always within reach.A thin shaft of moonlight sneaked through the thick curtains of Diluc's bedroom. The illumination was silver on sun-gold skin, drawing a line of attention to marred skin, to Diluc's strong triceps, to the wildfire hair escaping from its nighttime braid.'What did you survive?' Kaeya wondered. He leaned close, pressing a forehead to the butterfly bones of Diluc's back. 'A beast? An agent, slashing at you with blades of fire? A vishap's claws? —But you won't ever tell me, will you.'He likely never would. The years Diluc spent away from Mond were like the resolutely closed boxes in the Winery's storage—memories kept, but never opened, gathering dust in the dark and gloom of the past.

Kaeya leads the way out towards the main street, and Diluc diligently follows. At one point, Kaeya holds out his hand like Diluc is supposed to know what to do with it. Diluc stares at it, then up at Kaeya. “What?”
Kaeya laughs. He has been doing that a lot lately. “Hold my hand,” he says, then adds, “It’s what people do on dates,” and Diluc realises he must have looked confused, still.
Right, this is a date. Kaeya had asked him on a date, and he said yes. Or, he had not said no.
Kaeya wriggles his fingers. Diluc feels rather self-conscious when he places his hand into his, but Kaeya simply grins wider and links their fingers together. “Now, let’s get going, shall we?”

"Are you trying to deny yourself this?"Cold rushed through him at that. "… What?""You looked happy just a minute ago, you were happy, I felt it. Why are you trying to avoid it, and push yourself away? For what?" Kaeya demanded an answer, hurt harmonizing with his voice in a way that made Diluc's chest tighten. He couldn't look away from him, eyes not leaving that blue star. "If it's worries, or fear, or … something. Let me… try. Give this weird thing a chance, just one."

In its place were broad shoulders and a slim waist. Lean muscles filled in his tall frame, there was no doubt that the alpha would bulk up as he aged. A heated flush rose up Diluc’s neck as the image of the young alpha pinning him into his nest flashed through his mind.No. Diluc definitely did not see him as a pup.
